David Koma launches new eco-focused swim and beach line


More and more swim ranges are becoming sustainability-focused, a move that’s unsurprising given the impact of pollution and climate change on the world’s seas. So it’s no shock that the new Let’s Swim offer by David Koma is all about protecting sharks, preserving the oceans and cleaning up beaches.

The new lifestyle label from the London-based Georgian designer is a direct-to-consumer brand (available at letsswim.co) that we’re told “is an exploration into the ocean and environment, with a protagonist, the enigmatic shark, at the heart of the Let’s Swim universe”. 

Koma is known for his red carpet looks and sculptural approach to design and the company said he’s used this approach in the new line “to bring his creative vision to a wider audience with a bold and adventurous approach to swimwear and foster an engaged community through immersive storytelling”.

It’s inspired by “the freedom and liberated inhibitions when at the beach, or by the pool; a state of unrestrained undress, the most honest representation of human beauty”.

Koma said it also ties in to his love of travel and “felt like a natural progression and creative outlet”.

Over 97% of the collection has been responsibly sourced with 96% of the swimwear using Econyl, the regenerated nylon yarn from pre and post-consumer waste material including fishing nets. 

And 100% of the linked ready-to-wear collection is manufactured using organic cotton and recycled polyamide, while all packaging is 100% recyclable.

The first drop is centred on womenswear, featuring 10 bikinis and five swimsuits, alongside eight beachwear pieces. Notable garments include the One Shoulder Bandeau Swimsuit and the Mesh Maxi Dress that “draws on Koma’s high-fashion roots, providing a versatile collection to be worn from beach to bar”. 

The second drop, coming this summer, will focus on a men’s swim and beach wardrobe.

Prices start at €180/£165/$210 for bikini sets, rising to €325/£270/$340 for the maxi dress.
