I know many of you are packing your bags full of strappy sandals and colorful dresses in preparation for upcoming spring getaways. So, I thought today would be the perfect day to chat about swimwear! Since we’ve been spending much more time in Florida, my swimwear collection has grown significantly. While new pieces have been added, one thing that remains the same is my preference for a great one piece versus a two piece. Don’t get me wrong, I do own a number of two piece bathing suits that I love. But, a one piece will always be my top choice. Today I am breaking down the best one piece swimwear of 2024, and I’m also sharing how I’d style each piece!

What I Look For in Swimwear

Just as it is with clothing, finding your personal best style of swimwear is an important first step. It’s always good to have in mind which swimsuits and coverups make you look and feel your best, before you go shopping. While this will be different for everyone, I wanted to share a few things that I always look for in swimwear. These descriptions should help provide a little preview of the types of swimsuits that I’ll be highlighting in this post.

  1. Quality Fabrics: First and foremost, when shopping for swimwear, I look for high quality fabrications. I want to be sure the material has a great stretch and recovery, can endure lots of use, and is opaque, even when it’s wet!
  2. Comfort is Key: It simply wouldn’t make sense to include a style that wasn’t comfortable on a list of the best one piece swimwear! It is absolutely possible for a swimsuit to be both comfortable and stylish. I would argue that if you aren’t comfortable, you’re not going to feel confident in the swimsuit, no matter how cute it may be.
  3. Optimal Coverage: When choosing a swimsuit, I am mindful to select pieces that have coverage in all the right places. The optimal amount of coverage is something that will vary per person. While I don’t mind a low V or a cut out here or there, I typically only opt for pieces that have decent bottom coverage. No thongs for me!
  4. Keep it Simple: Simple doesn’t have to mean boring. While I do love a high-fashion swim piece, I don’t like swimsuits that are overly fussy. I also tend to stay away from one piece swimwear that has a myriad of thin straps.

Best One Piece Swimwear Brands

Now that you know what I’m looking for, let’s jump into some of the best one piece swimwear brands! These are all swim brands that I own, love, and will highly recommend. Some of the styles are repeat favorites (with colors and prints changing yearly), while others are brand new styles. Either way, these swimsuits tick all the boxes for me.

1. J.Crew

J.Crew is a staple of mine for a lot of items, but especially swim. Introduced in 1989, J.Crew swim is timeless, classic, and extremely well-made.

My two favorite J.Crew silhouettes continue to be their ruched one-shoulder swimsuit and their ruched bandeau swimsuit. These are made of a comfortable poly elastane fabric and have removable pads, which I always appreciate. Additionally, the excellent prices put these pieces at the top of my best one piece swimwear list!

While I own these styles in classic, solid colors, I love the new polka dot offering this season. In my opinion, these styles fit true to size, and both silhouettes also come in a long torso option. I typically style these suits with a pair of strappy sandals and a great pareo such as this one, this one, or this one.

2. Staud

While Staud swimwear only launched last year, it has quickly become a favorite of mine. Their one piece swimwear is a little more sporty and graphic than others, but still so classic. Last spring I bought this chic one piece swimsuit, (as seen here), and absolutely loved it. I was elated to see it come back again this year in new stripe, colorblock, and classic black and white options!

Staud also developed a ton of incredible cover-ups in tandem with their swim launch – and you know how much I love a matching moment. So, of course I bought a few matchy-matchy cover-up and swim looks. However, I also love mixing these up! My personal favorites are this mesh asymmetrical swim cover-up and this adorable swim skirt. I’ve found that Staud’s swimwear and coverups both typically fit true to size, and hold up very well over time, earning them a spot on the best one piece swimwear list this year!

3. Hunza G

Hunza G swimwear has been an influencer favorite over the past few years. The suits are one-size-fits-most and extremely stretchy. I own two and love them! But, I will say, they do not provide a ton of support. So if that is important to you, this probably isn’t the swimsuit you’re looking for. I have also decided to stay away from lighter colors in these suits, as I think they can become slightly translucent in water!

This classic square neck swimsuit is my favorite silhouette from this brand. I have also been eyeing this new high neck style. If you’re wanting to see all of the options, Net-A-Porter carries the biggest selection of Hunza G styles and colors.

In my opinion, these one piece suits give off a bit of an 80s feel, so I typically pair them with denim shorts. A few jean shorts that I have layered over these swimsuits in the past include this black pair, this frayed pair, and this cuffed pair. However, I am working on a BIG denim shorts post, since you all love this post and this post so much. So be sure to check back!

Best One Piece Swimwear Under $100

Next up, let’s talk about the best one piece swimwear under $100. I love a great, affordable swimsuit just as much as the next gal, and I’ve recently come across some really GOOD finds!

Back in February, I bought this bow swimsuit and this 3D flower swimsuit on Amazon. While I had to wait almost a month for them to arrive, it was absolutely worth it. They are both super fun and priced under $40! They are available in a few additional colors that you can see here and here. I bought a size small in both suits, and I was delighted to find they fit perfectly. Although, I do want to give a heads up, if you have a longer torso, these one piece suits may not work for you.

Fashion Swimwear Brands

If you have a flair for the dramatic, like yours truly, let me introduce you to some of my favorite fashion swimwear brands. These brands deliver beading, big ruffles, bold prints, and more, all while lounging poolside!

First up, Maygel Coronel is the go-to brand for the gal who loves ruffles and rosettes. My current favorite from this brand is this ruffle one-shoulder swimsuit. Another extraordinary brand with a similar vibe is Chiara Boni La Petite. I mean, just check out this swimsuit.

When it comes to floral show-stopping swimwear, this one piece is my personal favorite, (you can see how I styled it here). Or maybe you’re looking for a big bow? Look no further than this Tabacaru one piece suit, which is just divine! Beading on swimwear might sound strange. However, once you get a glimpse of the world of Oceanus, you will quickly realize how beautiful it can be. This brand does beading like no other. This pink and yellow swimsuit of theirs is at the top of my wishlist. Last, but not least, Johanna Ortiz has been a long-time favorite brand of mine. Therefore, it is no surprise that her beautiful styles complete the best one piece swimwear list!
