RNC co-chair Lara Trump blasts Maryland GOP Senate candidate Larry Hogan for urging the public to respect hush money verdict
Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump on Sunday took aim at Maryland Republican Senate candidate Larry Hogan in response to his call for Americans to respect the verdict in the former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial.
âWell Iâll tell you one thing: I donât support what he just said there,â Lara Trump said during an interview on CNNâs âState of the Union.â âI think itâs ridiculous and I think anybody whoâs not speaking up in the face of really something that should never again have seen the light of day at trial, that would never have been brought against any other person aside from Donald Trump, doesnât deserve the respect of anyone.â
âHe doesnât deserve the respect of anyone in the Republican Party at this point,â she added. âAnd quite frankly, anybody in America if thatâs the way you feel. Thatâs very upsetting to hear that.â
Asked whether the RNC is willing to cede the Senate seat in Maryland to Democrats and not support Hoganâs bid, Lara Trump said the committee wants the Republican Party to win, but that Hoganâs remarks are a âshameâ and that âhe should have thought long and hard before he said that publicly.â
Pressed again on whether the RNC will use the partyâs resources to support Hoganâs Senate bid, Lara Trump dodged the question and again criticized Hoganâs comments.
âWell, Iâll get back to you on all the specifics monetarily. But what I can tell you is that there as the Republican Party co-chair, I think he should never have said something like that,â she said. âI think thatâs ridiculous.â
Hogan, an outspoken Trump critic and former Maryland governor, urged âall Americans to respectâ the verdict in Trumpâs hush money trial in a post to X last week.
âRegardless of the result, I urge all Americans to respect the verdict and the legal process,â Hogan wrote in a post on X last week. âAt this dangerously divided moment in our history, all leadersâregardless of partyâmust not pour fuel on the fire with more toxic partisanship. We must reaffirm what has made this nation great: the rule of law.â
Hogan’s Senate campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The RNC co-chairâs remarks on CNN come after Chris LaCivita, a senior Trump campaign adviser, made similar remarks last week. In a post on X, LaCivita said Hoganâs Senate campaign âendedâ after he called for the public to ârespect the verdict and the legal process.â
During her interview on CNN, Lara Trump also declined to detail the amount of fundraising that will cover the former presidentâs legal fees.
The RNC co-chair on Sunday argued that voters have âspoken with their wallets and their pocketbooks,â touting that the RNC raised roughly $70 million in digital fundraising in the first 48 hours that Trumpâs verdict was handed down.
Asked how much of that money would be used to pay for the former president’s legal fees, the RNC co-chair said they would have to “wait and see.”
âWell, everybody has an option whenever they donate to our joint fundraising agreement to opt out of,â she said. âIt is a very small percentage of the money that we take in. And so I would have to say weâll wait and see what is necessary in the future.â
âObviously, this has been a very costly thing, not just for Donald Trump and his campaign but for America,â she added. âThis stain that this has put on our country, I think is abominable. And weâll do whatever we need to do to ensure that the right thing happens on November 5, because thatâs when the ultimate verdict will be rendered.â
