Wayne Rooney has been appointed the new head coach of Plymouth Argyle.

England’s second-highest scorer was sacked by Birmingham in January after just 83 days in charge.

That decision hit Rooney hard, but after taking some time to consider his future, amid a host of offers in the media, he has decided to return to football management.

Plymouth retained their Sky Bet Championship status on the final day of the 2023/24 season after beating Hull City 1-0 at Home Park to finish in 21st place – one point above relegated Birmingham.
